Kimmy Schmidt Spec Script
I wrote an Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt spec script.  A spec script, which is also known as a speculative script or a speculative screenplay, and sometimes incorrectly as a specimen script, is an unsolicited script.  In this case, it’s when one takes an existing television series that is currently on the air and writes a script for it.  The intention of the spec script is to show that the writer can take an existing piece of fiction and its universe and in a demonstration of their writing skills construct a piece that would fit squarely within that universe.  I took the world of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, distilled it  and by stripping it down into its core components, I wrote a script that would fit seamlessly into a second season of the the program. This was an extremely fun and rewarding experience for me.  I’ve submitted this piece to one of the network writing programs.
If you’ve never heard of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, it’s a show streaming on Netflix developed by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock.  The premise of the show is that a woman, kept as a teenager with three others in an Indiana bunker for fifteen years by a deranged apocalypse cult leader, is freed and adjusts to life in the present all the while exhibiting her time warped quirkiness in her new home, New York City.  A wonderful variety of supporting characters round up the tableau of this fun show.  The show is well worth of a watch and you might find yourself binging watching it once you watch the pilot episode.  Check the show out on Netflix or to get a feel of it first see last season’s trailer here on YouTube.
